Our Prep room is a colourful place filled with laughter, fun and the joy of learning new and exciting things.

Prep is meant to be a joyous time for every eager young learner. However, some children find the transition from Kindergarten to, ‘big school’ a little daunting.

At Carlisle Adventist College, Mackay, we do our best to ensure our Prep classroom is a welcoming and supportive environment where children can ease into their school journey. We aim to support our students with a holistic approach, to develop and nurture their social, emotional, spiritual and physical needs. Values of respect, initiative, helpfulness, kindness, and self-control are explicitly taught, modelled and affirmed in each student.

We believe it is a privilege to partner with you in the growth and development of your precious child.

Quality Learning

At Carlisle, we provide solid foundations for all the key learning areas of the Australian Prep program. A love of learning is our goal and we pursue this by balancing social interaction, formal learning and play-based learning. We also prioritise developing literacy and numeracy skills. Our learning areas include:

  • Bible
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • History
  • Geography
  • Visual Arts
  • Music, Dance and Drama
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Technology

Exciting Learning Opportunities

Prep students are curious, eager learners who engage best through shared experiences. Our Prep students consolidate the letters and sounds of the alphabet in fun-filled ways, such as our Hilarious Hat Day and Pyjama Day. We go an excursion to a farm, learn from the older generation at Grandparents Day and develop a love of music and performance art by participating in our school concert. We share in a love of our faith through active involvement in weekly chapels, as well as Week of Worships (WOW). We enjoy weekly swimming lessons in Term 1 and Term 4, and absolutely love doing gymnastics in Term 3.

Reporting

Formal reporting on student progress occurs 3 times a year.

  1. Interim Prep report and interview with the teacher at the end of Term 1
  2. Portfolio and Social Skills and Work Habits report presented to parents during an interview with the teacher, at the end of Term 2
  3. Final Prep portfolio and report, presented to parents at the end of the year.

Additional interviews may be requested to discuss your child’s progress or specific learning needs.

Getting Ready for Prep

We offer a program called ‘Ready Set Prep’ in Term 3 that offers Kindy aged children the chance to experience what ‘Big School’ is like. The program runs for two hours every week, and engages children in fun learning experiences that will support their transition into Prep for the following year.

Please contact our office with any questions you may have about our Prep program, or if you would like to book a tour.

Students who attend Carlisle Early Learning Centre, will automatically participate in our Ready Set Prep program.
